Christine is currently employed as a bookkeeper with the Musgamagw Tsawataineuk Tribal Council where she took her training in bookkeeping eight years ago under a NVIATS sponsored program.
Christine comments that the training was very beneficial; prior to this she was doing odd jobs and did not have a permanent position. She is very pleased with her career and plans to remain in this field at her present place of work.
Christine would like to thank NVIATS for approving the dollars and time it took for her to gain her knowledge, and comfort in learning the whole accounting system. The training was approved for 17 weeks and due to its nature, she had it extended as NVIATS is very flexible in offering more time if needed. She strongly recommends any company take advantage of their programs as it opened a very successful door for her.
BOOKKEEPER JOB DESCRIPTION
1. BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING DUTIES, UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE ADMINISTRATOR:
Prepare monthly Financial Statements – review and provide any comments each month so to keep within budget as close as possible
Prepare, issue and distribute approved cheques including the processing and preparation of Payroll and Expense Claims.
Keep all Personnel Files – file all copies of time sheets – file all Request for Leaves – tracking all Leaves
Administer Pension Plan – monthly payments – INAC reporting requirements
Record transactions where applicable – ie: deposits, payroll, JE
Month end procedures: Receiver General, Rent, Clear Travel Advances
Prepare all T – 4’s
Ensure all requirements are met for the annual Audit
Attend all Finance Meetings
Assist with Budget preparation when requested
Assist with reporting for Funding Agencies
Ensure administrative requirements are met to maintain status of MTTC. Conduct any other relevant duties as directed by the Administrator. Assist the Administrator as time permits
